Vanessa Best accepts award from “U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) NY District Office as The 2017 Women in Business Champion of The Year” from Ms. Beth Goldberg, SBA New York District Director.
Every year since 1963, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week. This year’s celebration was from April 30-May 6, 2017.
More than 50% of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year. My firm, Precision Receivable Services, LLC dba Precision HealthCare Consultants is one of those small businesses.
This year’s small business week was special for me because I was named and awarded from over 1.6 million business owners in NY “The 2017 Women in Business Champion of The Year”. The following statement was very encouraging to me:
Women and especially minority women are the fastest growing sector of business. Our economy misses out if we don’t support them” by Ms. Linda McMahon, Administrator for the SBA
Receiving support and acknowledgment from the SBA as a minority and women business owner is reassuring. As “The 2017 SBA Women Business Champion of the Year”, I will continue to advocate, promote, support, defend and back other women businesses. In all honesty, I haven’t done it on my own. There are resources that help me to “reach one, teach one”. As an instructor at Molloy College in Rockville Centre NY, I often provide opportunities for students that are looking to enhance their skills and either grow in their career path or become an entrepreneur. My firm, Precision HealthCare Consultants has helped hundreds of professionals in healthcare administration reach their professional development/leadership goals.
National Small Business Week is a time that the US Small Business Administration takes the opportunity to highlight the impact of outstanding entrepreneurs and small business owners from all 50 states and US territories. There are three free programs dedicated to help small businesses grow that I passionately support because they have had an impact on my business and/or I’ve seen firsthand how the program has been an engine for growth for other small businesses.

Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business
The Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business Program is an investment to help entrepreneurs create jobs and economic opportunity by providing access to education, capital and business support services. The GS10KSB program has connected me to a nationwide network and helped me to master the skill of working on my business, not in my business! The program at LaGuardia is the first community college in the country for this initiative. It has now expanded to Chicago, Houston, Long Beach, LA and New Orleans. Apply today

Qualifying for certification programs through the local and federal government is a strategic way to access government contracting. My firm, Precision Receivable Services, LLC dba Precision HealthCare Consultants in addition to being certified on city and state level as MWBE (Minority Women Business Enterprise) we are part of a Federal set-aside certification program called the 8(a) business development program. An advantage and benefit of having 8a certification is that:
8a firms can receive sole-source contracts from a federal agency up to $4 million for goods and services and $6.5 million for manufacturing
Additionally 8a firms can team and joint venture for larger contacts.
Federal set-asides are an engine and opportunity for small businesses to increase capacity, scale and grow. The SBA along with their resource partners provide programs, workshops and webinars to help businesses qualify, team and win. Learn about SBA Government Contracting.
The 2017 National Small Business Week will always be special as I had the honor of being awarded along with many amazing business owners around the country. My goal for the remainder of 2017 is to continue to be a champion and continue to offer my expertise in work process analysis, design/delivery of education/communication to government agencies, organizations, small businesses, healthcare ecosystems and women/men entrepreneurs.
